History of Aurawra

Take a browse through our adventures at Aurawra over the years!

Year 3: Mountains of Mayhem

Insatiable curiosity yielded a vessel equal in power and malice, birthing a beast of flame that now rages above and threatens our new home. To save what we hold dear we must seek the skill and bravery found in the adventurer’s ilk; that of soldiers, sorcerers and song-writers. We return above and with their help, venture yet higher in search of salvation and a sense of order to the ensuing chaos.

“We delved too deep, and we awoke something dire…”
- Billiam

Theme

Having inadvertently unearthed a deadly power from the ruins below, Aster, Billiam and Quortney must now venture forth with the aid of our adventurers in search of a way to rectify their mistake. Perilous though our journey may be, gold and glory may yet be found!

The focal point for Aurawra 2024 is one of adventure, invoking aspects of Tabletop and Roleplaying games. Mountains of Mayhem’s theme grew from the concept of awakening an ancient power buried underground, and challenging it with bigger, better (and perhaps cooler) powers!

This year we’re introducing two new characters to Aurawra's Mascot Roster: Aurion, the Aspect of Order, and Rû, the Aspect of Chaos.

Fire and Ice were the inspirations behind the colour palette for this year. We invoke fiery-reds and yellows juxtaposed against chilling blues and whites, representing the inharmonious nature of the two elements.

Year Two: The Lost Empire

Opening out into a vast underground Cavern, the relic before the trio was awash with a mystical power. Though it seems oddly out of place here, surely this artifact belongs deeper within the structure they currently explore. But how much deeper must our voyagers descend, and what lurks in the depths below?

“And when we seek, thus shall we discover”
- Aster

Theme

Aster, Billiam and Quortney explore into the depths of the ruins below the ice. How much deeper can our heroes descend before they uncover something treacherous? Maybe what is laid to rest here should be left to lie…

This theme centred on having discovered a forgotten empire, borrowing themes from classic adventure movies and novels. The Lost Empire’s theme is grounded in Archaeology, discovery of lost history and the forgotten magic of a lost empire.

The colour palette brings the Australian desert to life though a celebration of the earth and sky. Ochre red, Sandstone, Midnight blue and lush greens to represent the land, sky and life found in our ecosystem.

Year One: New Beginnings

This year, a band of brave, intrepid explorers followed the lead of an enigmatic crocodile, a grumpy quoll, and a nervous bilby on their maiden voyage into uncharted waters, to experience new adventures, and to make exciting new discoveries…

“And with much excitement and some trepidation, we set sail on a voyage of discovery.”
- Aster

Theme

Slated as Aurawra’s opening theme, Year One leaned heavily into exploration and a voyage into the unknown, focusing around an expedition into Antarctic waters under the gentle lights of the Aurora Australis in southern skies.

We based this year around the themes of ‘Arrival’, ‘New Journeys’, ‘Beginnings’, ‘Going out on a new adventure’, ‘Uncharted territories’, and the concept of “it’s the Journey that matters, not the destination.”

The colour palette we leant on elicited the beauty of the Aurora Australis after which our convention is named, as well as the visual inspiration of a journey into the Antarctic. The Aurora Australis colours were presented in saturated neon-greens, purples, and blues, while ice was conveyed with whites, light and icy-blues.

All of our visual content also used icy themes, and we lent into maps and content being displayed as sea charts. The centrepiece of the in-person theming for this year was a 6 metre long boat, named the ‘RSV Aurawra Australis’.

  • We managed to raise $6978.35 for our charity of choice; Twenty10

Twenty10 shared this message with the Aurawra team to pass on to all of our attendees:

To everyone who attended Aurawra Con this year, and to the Furry Community, Twenty10 wanted to send a big fuzzy heartfelt thank you for selecting us as your charity partner this year – and congratulate you all on the mammoth fundraising effort! We were all blown away by the result!

Seeing all the creativity in the room, and feeling such a strong sense of community – both LGBTIQA+ and Allies alongside – was so great to see at the Opening Ceremony. We were so happy to see the sun come out over the weekend.

Monies raised will go directly towards creating some much needed resources for young LGBTIQA+ people and those that work and support them. We are inundated for resources everyday, so this will be a huge help.

Thank you all so much again!
